Hear Then the Parable

The Kingdom is Like a Man With Two Sons

Luke 15:11-32

Jesus re-imagined the world through his parables. Those who heard him learned to live in the re-imagined world that Jesus called the Kingdom of God. Sunday, we continue our series by looking at a famous family drama from Luke. It is easy to look at the story of the Prodigal Son through the tired lens of a simple lost-and-found checklist about a wayward boy, but Jesus paints a very different picture.

He compares the Kingdom to a father with two sons that upends our worldview, strips away our self-righteousness, and dismantles our "us vs. them" mentalities. Let’s explore what it looks like to move past the traditional labels and ask ourselves the harder questions this parable demands. Do we identify with the reckless rebel or the resentful worker? Are we willing to step out of our games of comparison and competition to join the Father’s celebration? Can we handle the radical, equalizing grace required to join a community with no walls?
